Upcoming Activities and Opportunities for Service

Our Handbell Choir needs a few more ringers!  You do not have to be able to read music!  Just be able to count to 4!  We will be resuming rehearsals soon, so think about joining us!  It’s a beautiful way to praise God!

Upcoming Events

On Sunday, September 12, 2010, please join us in the sanctuary from 9:45 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. as we Kick Off our new Sunday School year!!  There will be light refreshments, time for fellowship and conversation, and information about upcoming adult and children’s classes.  Don’t miss it!!

Are you getting in the mood for some good barbecue?  Don’t forget – ours is the first Friday in October.  Plan to spend the day with us on Friday, October 1, 2010!!  We need your help!!  Sign-up sheets available soon!

Mark your calendars now for our annual Hanging of the Greens!!  It will be Sunday, November 21, 2010 immediately following worship. And if you would like to give input as to how our church is decorated for the Advent/Christmas season, now is your chance!  There will be a meeting on Sunday afternoon, October 17, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. to discuss how we decorate, and to look at some new possibilities!!  Please come be a part of it!  Once we make the decisions on October 17, things will be set for decorating on November 21.  So now is the time to give your suggestions, ask your questions, and share your ideas!  Let’s make this our most beautiful and holy Christmas!

How would you like to have a new pictorial directory of your Cornerstone family?  New member Allison Heafner has agreed to help with this effort.  She will be taking family photographs on Sunday, September 12 and Sunday, September 19, immediately following worship.  Please plan to stay for a few minutes after worship so you can be a part of our new directory! We will be needing pictures of our homebound members, also.  If you can help us with that, please let Allison or Pastor Jessica know.

Sunday, September 12 is also our next Second Sunday Fellowship Meal – we’ll be enjoying a covered dish lunch together.  So that will be the perfect opportunity to get your picture made!  Mark your calendar now, and plan to help us making this book complete.

Jim McPhatter reported at the last session meeting that he delivered 126 pounds of food to CCM in July.  That is the most we have ever donated!  Thanks to everyone who has been so generous!  Please continue to fill our grocery cart in the narthex with food items (specific needs listed below).  Our less fortunate neighbors depend on these gifts.

Scripture
Luke 11.1-13

So here is what I say to you. Ask, and it will be given to you. Search, and you will find. Knock, and the door will be opened to you.  Everyone who asks will receive. He who searches will find. And the door will be opened to the one who knocks.

Prayer of the Day
Gracious God, You know us better than we know ourselves. As we come before You now, believers and doubters alike, we all share a deep need, for we are all lost without Your grace. Search us, O God, and know our hearts, test us and know our troubled thoughts. Give us true repentance and help us ask You for what we need. Forgive us all our wrongs. Transform us by Your Spirit to live for You each day, to learn to serve each other through the grace of Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.

Next week in Living Prayer ~ Find and You Shall be Sought

Empty Shelves!  Nationally, food pantries are reporting that their shelves are being emptied faster than they can fill them. As rising food prices and shrinking household budgets send more families to food pantries to make ends meet, food pantry shelves are running low.

CCM is feeling the pinch. Our food pantries are at a critical low!  We have had an 11.5% increase in the number of households and a 15.0% increase in the number of individuals receiving food from our food pantries during the first seven months of 2010. We supply food to seven pantries scattered throughout Cabarrus and Southern Rowan Counties to better serve those families in need.

During our 2009-10 fiscal year we served over 11,400 households with almost 900,000 pounds of food! We want to THANK YOU because we couldn't have done it without your help! And now, we are asking you for your help again to:

Help fill our shelves with:
Breakfast Items, Canned Fruits, Canned Vegetables, Soup, Pasta, & Ramen Noodles
We will gladly accept your donations Monday through Friday 9:00 a.m. ~ 4:00 p.m. at the Crisis Center ... 246 Country Club Drive, Concord or any of our Satellite Pantry locations. Call 704.786.4709 ext. 822 for more information or to bring donations after 4:00 p.m.
Donations can be taken to the Night Shelter (216 Patterson Ave., Concord) any day of the week after 7:00 p.m.

Check our website regularly for current pantry needs and much more.
