Thanks to everyone who helped with Vacation Bible School in June! We had a WONDERFUL time!! A special thanks to Kathryn Moss for coordinating and planning everything, and to Rich Stanley for working so hard on our games. Our GOBs really outdid themselves with the fantastic meals each week!! So many of you helped in so many ways – THANK YOU!!! It would not have been such a success without everyone’s support and hard work!

Our children are a wonderful addition to our church family! How would you like to help nurture them? We are in need of people to help out on Sundays during worship, as our “Cornerstone Kids” have fun and learn and enjoy each other’s fellowship. Please sign up on the bulletin board in the back of the sanctuary. We hope to get enough volunteers to spread the joy around!! The lesson is laid out for you – you only need to be present and ready to help the children with the Bible story and the craft. We need two adults in the classroom each Sunday. Please give this your prayerful consideration. If you have any questions, please see Kathryn Moss.
Jessica Patchett Anderson invites you to celebrate with her in her service of Ordination to the Ministry of Word and Sacrament at Bethpage Presbyterian Church in Kannapolis on Sunday, July 26 at 3:00 pm, with a reception to follow in the fellowship hall. Rev. Keith Grogg will be preaching and Rev. Amy Busiek will be providing a charge to the pastor. Both Rev. Grogg and Rev. Busiek served as Associate Pastors at Bethpage and currently serve churches in the Coastal Carolinas and Charlotte Presbyteries. Also serving on the ordination commission from the Charlotte Presbytery are Rev. Katie Crowe, First Charlotte, Sarah Alice Underwood, Cornerstone, Meg Patchett, Bethpage, Rev. Toure Marshall, H.E.L.P., Valerie Kirkland, C.N. Jenkins, and Tamara Williams, First United, Charlotte.
Girl Scout Troop #2087, which meets at our church under the leadership of Lawana Huff, is working on their Bronze Award. This is the highest award that their age level can achieve. We are working on a group project that the girls have named "Paws for Protection." Our goal is to earn enough money to purchase a Kevlar police dog vest for a Cabarrus County Police Dog. They are priced between $700.00 and $900.00 each. So we have some ideas to earn the money, and this is where we hope Cornerstone can help. We have been making homemade dog treats and testing them on our own dogs to see what they like best, and are now ready to go into "production" to earn some money. We have scheduled combined yard sale/dog treat sale for Saturday, July 18, 2009. We would also gladly accept any donations of unwanted yard sale items that the church members would like to get rid of at our sale. All proceeds will go toward the dog vest, and if we have overage we will donate it to the Humane Society or other Cabarrus County animal project.
Mark your calendars now, and start looking through your attic and closets and garages and save that stuff to help protect a Cabarrus County police dog! More details soon!
